Potts Family Portraits
A professional photographer photographing her own family. Not that easy, right?! Of course, any of us would say that our mom is one of your biggest fans, so naturally my mom wanted me to photograph our family. Set up the tripod, set the timer, done. Well… the line-em-up static photo isn’t really my style. I’m more about dynamic movement and interaction… but it’s for my mom! So we had a partially “AudreyMichel Photography” shoot.
Here are the logistics – We loaded up the fam and headed to Ta-Ha-Zooka Park in Norfolk, Nebraska, all 7 of us. My nephew, Henry, was 5 months old at the time of the shoot, so I knew it was going to be a bit of challenge to get him to look at the camera. If the photoshoot was all adults, I could just set the timer and run into position. But its hard enough to get a 5mo old to look at ME during a photoshoot, so getting him to look at some inanimate object… yeah right. My solution…photoshop. Again, not my style, but I’ll live. After getting everyone into position we took a “Henry” photo and an “adult” photo. Basically “Henry’s” photo was my sister and her husband and Henry with my dad behind me (because Henry LOVES Grandpa!), we got a great smile out of Henry looking towards the camera, and snap, snap, snap. Then my sister and her husband were NOT to move (to make my photoshopping easier), and I took another image of the “adults”. Slammed the two images together in photoshop (a bit of masking around Henry for my technical photographer friends), and ta-da… you get this photo. Perfect for mom’s holiday card!
I got a few “lifestyle” type images, but the Peterson Family is getting used to me taking their photo.
and for these last 2, me with my hubby, Aaron, and then with Henry, my sister took the camera. We do this quite often (strange, as a photographer I have very few images of myself!) I get all the settings ready, change the camera to chose focus points, and hand Amber the camera. She’s going to take my job!
